We had a feeling GM was sandbagging us with the production specs of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 back in December. 620 horses is equal to one hundred horsepower per liter they told us. Revised specs in the Spring, we heard. Well, it's unveiling time at the Museum's C5/C6 Bash and GM finally makes the Supercharged LS9 6.2L V8 power specs official: The new 2009 Corvette ZR1 produces 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque.

Longtime supporter Sharon Stone has donated cars in previous years to the event, but this year she made a bit of extra news when she decided to give her 1974 T-Top Corvette to the cause.

Reports that the weather has been warm and dry over the previous days has brought out Team Corvette and their supercharged 638 hp Corvette ZR1, this time dressed in red. Eyewitnesses speculate that GM may have been looking for a lap time as he "spotted a helicopter chasing something that sounded very V8 and awfully supercharged..."

Over the last few years, the mantra at Corvette has been more performance, more horsepower. But the passage of the new energy bill that raises the CAFE standards to an average of 35 mpg will undoubtedly force GM's engineers to rethink performance while pursuing economy first. The results will be a lighter, greener Corvette that will not only survive the 35 mpg standard, but should thrive in it as well.

The 1963 Split Window Z06 Coupe is one of the most coveted and therefore collected midyear Corvettes. Only 199 of these special performance optioned Vettes were produced. Then factor in the N03 36 gallon "tanker" option of which only 63 were made and you've got a very special Corvette indeed.
