Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported a 38.2 percent decrease in November sales with 14,102 vehicles sold, bringing the company’s year-to-date volume to 206,396 new units – an 8.6 percent decrease over the year-to-date record set last year. Sales highlights for Mercedes-Benz USA include a 16.9 percent increase in C-Class sales and a 5.5 percent increase M-Class SUV sales for the year-to-date.
Daimler is reporting that worldwide sale of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart brands decreased 18.1 percent last month to 93,800 new units (compared to 114,600 units in October 2007). Despite the substantial drop, Mercedes-Benz Cars did manage to maintain a slight improvement in its year-to-date total, with the division noting sales of 1,073,700 new units – a 1.6 percent increase over 2007's 10-month ytd total.

The first special-protection models from Mercedes-Benz differed from those of later years not only with regard to their design and performance, but also in terms of their technical basis. Instead of having a self-supporting body structure, which is now the norm, their bodies were mounted on strong frames. The weight of the protective steel plates therefore called for less extensive design changes than is currently the case.

Dr. Olaf Göttgens, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars, may be considering a change in scenery, with the marketing maverick reportedly in agreement to take on the role of chief executive officer at the Rodenstock Group – a Munich-based eyeglass maker. As of now, however, a contract between the parties has yet to be signed, while Mercedes is rumored to still be seeking a suitable successor to Göttgens.
An ultrarare 1931 Daimler car was awarded "Best of Show" at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the top competition for high-priced collectible cars, on Sunday. The long-nosed 1931 Daimler Double-Six Corsica Drophead Coupe is one of only four that were produced. The car is currently owned by Robert Lee of Reno, Nev. It was judged the best car among 175 competing cars.
