The times have certainly changed for the sport utility market. While SUVs enjoyed tremendous sales success in recent years, the rising price of gasoline coupled with a weakened economy has driven down SUV sales more recently. As a result, dealers are struggling to move SUV inventory these days, even with attractive incentives. The hardest hit by this trend may be domestic automakers as they have relied on the sales successes of gas guzzling midsize and large SUVs.
Toyota has added yet another crossover to its lineup, the midsize Venza. Toyota refers to the Venza as a “crossover sedan,” perhaps to align it with the more wagon-like crossovers on the market, such as the Chrysler Pacifica or Mercedes-Benz R-Class. Regardless, the all-new 2009 Toyota Venza provides the automaker’s lineup with fresh styling that should go a long way amid dipping auto sales.
It will adapt various Murano-styling elements, has all-wheel-drive and is expected to be powered by 2.0 litre four cylinder fuel and Diesel engines. America is addicted to oil, you know. Oil prices go up without stopping and more buyers exchange their bulky gas-guzzling SUVs for more practical, although less sexy, family sedans and crossovers. That's why General Motors is struggling, shrugging off unsuccessful sport utility vehicles.
