Everyone’s favourite talking car from the 80s returns to television with the premiere of the new Knight Rider sequel this Sunday. Although we are very skeptical if the 2008 Knight Rider show, now featuring a Mustang GT500KR, will come close to the Hoff’s classic, it should make for some entertaining TV viewing. Today Steeda, the Pompano Beach-based company unveiled the Steeda GT500, which, uses Ford’s 500-horsepower Shelby GT500 as its base. No signed numbers are provided in the press release, but given that the Steeda GT500 incorporates the company’s cold air intake, ECU tune, and pulley upgrade, we figure on the output being somewhere between 600 and 650 horsepower.
The folks at Shelby will take your $45,000 GT500 and for just $27,995, they’ll boost the engine performance via a Shelby supercharger upgrade, a Borla cat-back exhaust system and a cold air intake and then they’ll work on the handling a bit by dropping in a Shelby/Eibach coil over suspension to lower the ’stang a little over an inch-and-a-half and then by adding Shelby/Eibach sway bars to reduce the body roll.
A Thai company is making its own sports cars, with the engine based on the 3.2L 6-cylinder Volkswagen Golf R32 engine, modified by Canadian tuner HPA. Future versions may see as much as 550 hp through a twin-turbo setup.

Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday that it was recalling nearly 20,000 Mustang Cobra sports cars after receiving complaints that the back of the accelerator pedal could become caught in the floor carpeting and lead to a crash.
Reports of SVT's demise have been grossly exaggerated, or so Ford Motor Company says. Mark Fields, Ford's turnaround guru, said at the New York Auto Show the company will offer a beefed up Mustang and a speedy truck via its SVT brand, and should sell 5,000 to 10,000 of each one. The truck won't likely be the Explorer Sport Trac Adrenaline, which was sacrificed to The Way Forward gods.
The brand, marketing, team, and eventually the vehicles will disappear. With the premium performance brands going strong at some other companies, this is surely not a good sign for Ford. The 2007 Shelby Cobra will be the last of the SVTs.
