Not that it would be that that hard to a white Lamborghini Gallardo that's in Bullrun 2006, but this one does have an extra measure of protection: an electronic license plate cover with an LCD film that instantly obscures the plate at the flip of a switch.

A designer who has spent most of his career working on parts for Formula One cars has come up with a new, off-road wheelchair. The Trekinetic K2 dispenses with the old tubular chassis and uses a carbon fibre monocoque instead. Designer Mike Spindle was inspired to create the off-road chair when he saw someone wheeling through an airport lounge.

This is a video of BMW\342\200\231s extreme testing innovations. For a producer of cars so packed with technology, it\342\200\231s only normal for their testing procedures to be highly advanced too. They actually have a Nurburgring track test simulator, which allows a BMW being tested to experience the trials of the Nurburgring track without actually having to be there.

It's been well over a year since Michelin unveiled its take on the future of the tire, the airless Tweel. The odd-looking invention pairs a replaceable outer rubber layer with a central alloy hub joined by polyurethane ribs. Judging by this video, it would appear that the tire manufacturer is continuing to develop its concept, testing it on a variety of vehicles in a number of different environments.

Infiniti's In-Car Hard Drive www.technoride.com
Add Infiniti to the ranks of automakers with a hard disk in the dash for both navigation data and music storage. It's part of the optional Bose Studio on Wheels sound system, which comes in the new G35 arriving this fall. Although other automakers have chosen DVD-Audio with discrete five-plus-channel simulated sound (Acura), or simulated sound such as the Logic7 system (BMWs and Audis), Nissan is returning to good old stereo with the G35 sedan (albeit with 10 speakers).

Among the technology features that will distinguish the 2007 Lexus LS 460 when it goes on sale next month is an eight-speed automatic transmission. An industry first, the Lexus gearbox will top the mere seven speeds offered on certain Mercedes-Benz and BMW models — even the $1.2 million Bugatti Veyron — and handily outclass the four-, five- and six-speed transmissions in widespread use today.
